kodomo no koro no natsuyasumi to ieba,
子供の頃の夏休みといえば、
Speaking of summer vacation as a kid,

「rajio taisou」
「ラジオ体操」。
“radio gymnastic exercises”.

souchou kara okite,
早朝から起きて、
Getting up early in the morning,

sutanpu oshite morau ka-do wo kubi kara sagete,
スタンプ押してもらうカードを首から下げて、
with a stamp card dangling from my neck

majime ni ittotta wa~.
真面目に行っとったわ〜。
I would attend them earnestly.

koutei de rokuji han kara hajiman nen.
校庭で6時半から始まんねん。
It starts at six thirty in the schoolyard.

rajio ni awase te, minna de ishsho ni「rajio taisou daiichi」♪ to「rajio taisou daini」♪ wo shimasu.
ラジオに合わせて、みんなで一緒に「ラジオ体操 第一」♪ と「ラジオ体操 第二」♪ をします。
Everyone all together do “radio gymnastic exercises, part one” and “radio gymnastic exercises, part two” to music and instructions from radio.

shusseki no hanko wo oshite moratte
出席のハンコを押してもらって
We get it stamped for the attendance and

takusan hanko wo atsumetara,
沢山ハンコを集めたら、
if we get a lot of stamps,

saijyu-bi ni no-to toka enpitsu no keihin ga moraen nen.
最終日にノートとかえんぴつの景品がもらえんねん。
we get a freebie such as a notebook or a pencil on the final day.

keihin meate to iuyori, hanko wo oshite morau koto jitai ni imi ga atta wa.
景品目当てというより、ハンコを押してもらう事事態に意味があったわ。
There was more point in collecting seals than getting a free gift.

＊　＊　＊　Tips about Japanese　＊　＊　＊
You guys over there might want to have your seal here in Japan.
A personal seal is much more important than your own signature on every occasion.
At ハンコ屋さん, or a seal store, you can say;
「katakana de ‘jyoni-‘ toiu namae no inkan wo tsukutte kudasai.」
「カタカナで ’ジョニー’ という名前の印鑑を作って下さい。」
“I’d like a personal seal carved ‘Johnny’ in katakana.”

kazoku to ishsho ni, nagai aida, inaka ni kaetteta na.
家族と一緒に、長い間、田舎に帰ってたな。
I used to visit our hometown and stay there for a while with my family.

uchi no inaka wa setonaikai no chi-sana shima.
うちの田舎は瀬戸内海の小さな島。
My parents come from a small island in Seto inland sea.

kaisuiyoku to semitori no mainichi.
海水浴と蝉取りの毎日。
I went swimming in the sea and catching cicadas everyday.

shiohigari wo tetsudawasareru no suki jya nakatta.
潮干狩りを手伝わされるの好きじゃなかった。
I didn’t like to help dig clams at the beach.

moji do-ri baketsu ni ippai torero made kaerare hen nen mon.
文字通りバケツに一杯取れるまで帰られへんねんもん。
We can’t go home until we can gather literally a bucketful of clams.

oba-chan ga ido mizu de hiyashite kureta suika ga oishi katta.
おばあちゃんが井戸水で冷やしてくれたスイカがおいしかった。
Watermelons my grandma cooled in well water were yummy.

tokai to chigatte, yoru niwa hoshi ga takusan mieta wa.
都会と違って、夜には星が沢山見えたわ。
You can see tons of stars at night unlike in the city area.

ohuro wa uraniwa ni ate, goemon buro.
お風呂は裏庭にあって、五右衛門風呂。
The bathroom is in backyard and the tub is a goemon-buro.

goemon buro wa hanbun kyouhu de hanbun tanoshi-yo.
五右衛門風呂は半分恐怖で半分楽しいよ。
A goemon-buro is half scary and half fun to get into.

watashi wa mada kodomo yatta kara shitakoto naikedo, maki de taku nen.
私はまだ子供やったからしたことないけど、薪で炊くねん。
As I was just a child and never tried but they heat the bath with firewood.

huro gama wa chu-tetsu de,
風呂釜は鋳鉄で、
The bathtub is a cast-iron cauldron and

jikabi de takare tete,
直火で焚かれてて、
directly heated at the bottom so

kama ni huretara atsui kara ki no ita ni notte hairana akan.
釜に触れたら熱いから木の板に乗って入らなあかん。
you have to soak in it on a board to protect your feet from direct contact with the hot metal.

marude onabe de gutsututsu takare teru kibun.
まるでお鍋でグツグツ炊かれてる気分。
I feel like I’m boiled in a pod.

sokumen nimo huretara akan de~!
側面にも触れたらあかんで〜！
You should also avoid touching the sides.

toire mo engawa ni arukara,
トイレも縁側にあるから、
The toilet was at the end of the veranda-like porch and

yonaka ni iku noga kowakatta.
夜中に行くのが怖かった。
I was afraid of going there during the night.

ie ni kagi nanka nakute, dare demo haitte koren nen.
家に鍵なんかなくて、誰でも入ってこれんねん。
They don’t have any keys to the house and anybody can come into it.

kinjyo no hito ga, taberu mono toka oite itte kureru koto ha attemo,
近所の人が、食べるものとか置いていってくれる事はあっても、
A neighbor might come and leave food or something but

mono ga nakunaru koto nanka zettai nai.
物が無くなる事なんか絶対ない。
there’s not a chance a thing disappears.

heiwa sonomono deshita.
平和そのものでした。
It was peace indeed.

すごい。昔の日本の夏の光景ですね。読んでいて、夏の木々の中の蝉時雨の音が聞こえてきそうな記事です。

私は五右衛門風呂は入ったことないです。側面も触ってはいけないのですね。

こういう体験はしたことがないのに、懐かしく感じるのは、やはりこういうのが日本人の原風景なのでしょうね。

冷房もない、ヒートアップ現象もない、気候も、もう少しカラっとした暑さだったような気がします。
昔は時間も静かに流れていました。
ラジオ体操を始め、夏の風物詩の話をしようと思ったのに(そういうのは、他のメジャーな日本語ポッドキャストにお任せです)、自分の田舎の話がメインになってしまいましたが、今でも都会を離れて地方に行けば、五右衛門風呂はないにしても、子供たちは、塾やコンピューターゲームの合間に、せみを採ったり、海に行ったり、山に登ったりしているのでしょう。そうである事を望みます。

ラジオ体操！ 懐かしい〜。そうそう、ハンコ押してもらったよねぇ。うちの近所では今でもラジオ体操あるみたいですが、何故か息子（小１）には参加するようにとのお達しがない。無理強いはしないってことかなぁ？ 私が子供の頃は「班活動の一環」として半強制的に行かされていたような気がするけど･･･ 班の子供がぞろぞろ連れ立って行って、班長さんがハンコを押しました。うちにはシャチハタがなくて、はんこ入れについてるチャチな朱肉で押していてうまく押せなかった記憶がある。

セミは前の公園にわんさかいて、毎年取ってます。取るのはいいとしても、それを虫かごに入れるのがイヤなんだけど･･･（笑）。家ではカブトムシとクワガタを合計７匹飼ってます。やっぱり今の子供もムシは好きみたいですよ。ちょっと安心しますよね。
となりのトトロを見ていると、何だかああいう生活や景色を知っているような気がするのは本当に不思議です。

ラジオ体操はもはや小学生の義務(笑)ではないのですか令
あちこちの会社でも、社員さんが揃ってやってはるのを見かけます。

Rachさんのハンコの記憶はやけに鮮明ですね(笑)
男の子は虫がお好きでしょうね〜　公園が目の前っていいですね。やっぱり蝉とりは健全ですか。ヨカッタ　7匹もスゴイ！価値はいかほどに…(イヤラシイ大人の、イヤ、商売人の街、大阪のおばちゃん思考か)
私も昔は蝉もかえる(蝉といっしょにかえるが木にとまってません？)も平気だったのに、今はかなり虫の多い地域にいながら、虫が恐い。

タマに虫が頭にピューと飛んでくる夢でキャーとか叫びながら目が覚めます
小学校で、クラスの男の子が、休み時間に尺取り虫をビニール袋に集めて机の中に入れてたのが、授業中、逃げ出して大変だったのを思い出しました。

I have a request. Perhaps when you use Osaka-ben, you could make a note on the regular Japanese wording. それとも, perhaps a vocab list with each post of some of the more hard words.
